For all too many, the process of choosing a puppy or puppies is
based purely on how cute the puppy is or how playful its
personality seems at the pet store or kennel. Granted, playful
and cute puppies can really tug at your heart strings and urge
you to make an impulsive and expensive decision regarding this
very important addition to your family, but without proper
thought and research into the type of breed you are purchasing,
your family and your cute, adorable puppy could be in for a long
road of pain and frustration ahead.

It is a common scenario – someone, maybe a single person or maybe a family, walks into a pet store or animal shelter. They hem and haw, pet and cuddle, and make all sorts of exclamations. A few moments later, they walk out with the “perfect” dog or puppy in tow, ready to start out on their new life together. It may be a big dog or a small dog, an older dog or a younger puppy – everyone’s idea of the “perfect” dog is a little bit different. However, all dogs, big and small, young and old, can benefit from dog training. Puppy potty training can take your puppy from a cute little mess to an ideal housemate and beyond.

Socializing puppies at an early age can prevent many adult dog behavior problems. Enrolling a puppy in a training school can prevent such future problems as constantly barking, running away, biting, fear of children, destroying items such as furniture, and much more. The best age to enroll your puppy in a training school is 8 weeks. By participating in a training school, your puppy will have the best chance to live a happy and secure life.

Despite their rambunctious behavior at times, puppies are eager to please and they desperately want your love and approval. Much like a newborn baby, puppies need to be taught right from wrong and they need to learn in a way that involves both patience and understanding. Not only can effective puppy training lead to a better relationship between you and your four-legged friend, but it may also save your pet’s life one day.

When training your pets, you may notice that different dogs behave differently, and they may respond in various ways to your training methods. The right thing to do, is to observe their behavior and be tolerant if they make mistakes during training. As a good trainer, you should never try to instill fear into your pet. Over time, the dog will learn to fear the owner, and tends to run away when the owner arrives. As a pet owner, you want the pup to be closer to you. With fear, the distance between you can your pet will drift further apart.
